1900s Chinese antique gold bracelet set with 5 jade cabochons in 24k pure gold.
This is an early piece of ‘luxury’ jewellery, its pure gold is signed with full Chinese hallmarks, jewellers and all.
The jadeite jade is certified translucent; this is a distinct gemmology quality and not everyday occurrence. The jadeite is a stunning uniform green colour. It is hard to describe the colour of jadeite, since jade colour appears different under different light conditions. But let the photos speak.
Both under full light and very low light conditions, please observe the the green of the jade – it does not seem to fade! The green is so insistent in its lustre that its colour appears consistent throughout despite changes in light.
This shade of green in the jadeite is seldom seen in modern or even vintage jade, at least not seamless green like this in such big pieces. Each cabochon measures about 10mm by 8mm, and all five cabochons are matched and thoroughly green.
Not only is this green uncommon in modern jadeite jewellery, it is also not common in antique jadeite pieces. The green is neither apple green nor imperial green, but it is a magnificent green that cannot be easily found.
The links are cleverly crafted, with the whole gold chain made up of small individual links, each at a mere 3.5mm! The links are chased (textured) in traditional Chinese technique and by its high karat gold the entire piece is strong in Asian provenance with no hint of Western influence.
Like much of historical Western jewellery, authenticity and antiquity are two separate things. While traditional pieces are antique, they need not necessarily be authentically ethnic.
This piece is, which is why it carries with it an heirloom delicacy.
