Description
True Peranakan jewelry is always delicately designed, however much the gold in a piece of jewelry. This bracelet has its hand-cut ‘intan’ diamonds positioned quite orderly, almost as if gold and diamond are designed to be equal parts.
While symmetry is not always obvious to the eye, the diamonds are actually placed harmoniously in threes for each ‘fan’ or ‘petal’, where four petals then form around the core as the center flower.
Consistent with most old Peranakan bracelets, the whole bracelet is flexible and articulates around the flower. This means even if the bracelet is too small or too big, it will nevertheless wrap nicely to every wrist. This antique diamond bracelet is similar to this: both feature the stylized fan motif except for a different centerpiece, though this is likely to be a little older. This piece should date somewhere before the ’50s, with at least 70 years.
This 20-22k bracelet is a dainty piece, the flower is widest at only 1.5cm, though its typical 2-3mm Peranakan links are rather ornate. Spring flavors this bracelet.
