玻璃种 Transparent Glassy Icy Green Jadeite Ring 18k
Glassy Icy Green Jadeite Ring
Fine jade ring set with a high quality ‘glassy’ green jadeite cabochon and accented with diamonds in 18k.
The jade has a very fine grain crystal and is noted for its transparency.
In jadeite, this ‘玻璃种’ or glassy type is distinguished from mere icy or translucent jade.
Glassy jadeite has the topmost clarity in terms of transparency.
Specifically, these are icy green jade cabochons displaying an optical phenomenon known in the jade trade as ‘起莹光’ or luminescence.
Luminescence appears as a silvery white light moving through the jade cabochon.
If present, this phenomenon is mostly observed in top quality icy white jadeite, and less commonly in icy green jadeite.
Hence, this three-tier attribute (luminous + glassy + green) is considered a rarity that pushes up the rank of this very specific green jadeite.
Value is also proven by how jade material fulfilling this three-tier attribute only come in cabochons that are rarely, if ever, large.
For lovers of jade, where once it was just ‘imperial green jadeite’, this ‘luminous glassy green’ is now increasingly spoken for.
The jade is set in a halo alternating marquise and teardrop diamonds, the red peeking from rubies at angles.
The polka of natural rubies create a beautiful floral underside, graduating red (rubies) to pink (sapphires) stones on the band.
Very carefully crafted, this is not a big ring, but it is one of few contemporary jade rings balancing interest with just enough difference.
The ring has dainty proportions (face) spanning 16mm by 14mm, showing off the jade’s dome.
The green in the ring is lighter than the green in the similarly luminescent earrings, listed separately.
These luminescent green jade stones are very prized gems, they are resplendent into almost any design.
Diamonds weigh 1.2ctw.
