1900s cluster ring set with hand cut diamonds in 20k.
The cluster is an eight-sided star, an ethnic motif that has powered Straits Chinese jewelry art.
The diamonds are hand cut diamonds, where the stones are more spliced than faceted, as only hand cut diamonds can be.
This early version of rose cut diamonds is also seen in Georgian rings, with organic, uneven facets.
The diamonds are clean and sit like a windowpane through the star, their edges cupped beautifully in gold-tipped bezels.
The ring feels like it was reworked, but it is actually a very early period ring, similar to those very simple Victorian rings, old but almost ‘modern’.
The ring’s face spans 13mm across.
