Translucent Jadeite Pendant
Fine jade pendant set with carved pale green jadeite jade in 18k.
The carving is faint celadon with bolts of green inking through.
This is an older style of symbolism carving, simple and embossed on both faces through its bat-on-bi (coin) motif; the bat is a homonym for prosperity in Chinese.
The low relief carving unveils the jade’s depth, thick for what is a finely polished, flatish pendant.
Held up to the light, translucent and icy, this display greatly surprises, as the pendant flaunts like a gossamer wing, or seaweed under the water’s surface.
On the palm the jadeite displays as clouds moving through the green.
A ‘floating’ display in an icy semblance has pictorial qualities, light always surprises the eye in these ‘soft beauty’ pieces, made more delicate by its secretive sheerness.
The carving measures 50mm by 35mm, thickest at 6mm.
