Wide gold bracelet set with diamonds in 22k gold.

This is a ’60s Straits Chinese bracelet, made at the end of an era of solid gold bracelets worn as part of stacking multiple bracelets together.

Straits jewellery is a celebration of gold, where much of gold was used as a way of safekeeping fortunes, and with that secured, passing onto future generations.

Much of these bracelets were made in variegated motifs of nature, some with solid gold coins, some thick, some slimmer. Invariably, they were very gold and hefty, forming a festive and bohemian wrist candy for bejewelled ladies.

Ironically, today a bracelet like this is appreciated for wearing chunkily (even with its nice ‘clink’), for the fashion of sophisticated costume jewellery but in the luxury of gold.

The color of the gold in this vintage piece is divine.

The pliable leaf bracelet folds between two fingers and drapes over the wrist. The delicate dangly charms are regarded as ‘treasures’, in this bracelet they are rose cut diamonds (most are just gold orbs).

These gold-only bracelets feel very fashionable to mix and match, and will frame well with almost any antique or modern jewellery, ornate or minimal. That’s a lot for something made by a jewellery store to sell off the shelves over half a century ago.

The bracelet measures 6.75″ long and 2cm tall.
