Description
Jade Antique Carving
Antique jadeite jade carving from the Qing period.
This is a Chinese prayer wheel, a meditative spinner at its core.
The celadon carving is a pale hue of green that is soft and supple, in some parts greenish and others greenish white.
Its cloud form harnesses a floral incised detailing, the core is a ‘coin’ that rotates in two axes.
The spinner lays flat in rest state, freely moving but forever inseparable, a tactile art that reflects the delicacy of Chinese carving.
The incisions in the whole carving are very neat and tranquil, the piece has a quality that hovers above day-to-day grade.
While some of these historical ornaments are jade but not jadeite, in this piece we can observe the jadeite’s lustre and brightness easily.
It may not be moist, but it feels like so.
When held in the hand, a meditative play begins, truly.
The 5cm carving is smaller than some in its genre and may be worn as a pendant to carry its simple grace.
