Tear Drop Diamond Pendant Antique 18k Chinese
Mid century or earlier diamond pendant set with 3.8ctw diamonds in 18k.
At 4cm tall, this Straits Chinese pendant is one of the bigger pendants to go on a necklace. Yet its diamonds clustered onto a single tear drop makes for a singular design.
The eye sees the shape before anything else. That’s what makes a memorable pendant.
The diamonds are arranged on stepped cloisters, the neat and compact cluster makes the pendant extremely striking. You forget how big it actually is.
These Bohemian type of pendants, as opposed to Art Nouveau or Art Deco motifs, have their roots in Indian ethnic jewellery.
They always look simple to the eye, though they are always tediously crafted. They were made from as early as the 1900s, with various grades of diamonds and mostly average sized, like the similar pendant photographed with.
This is the biggest one we’ve encountered, and still we cannot believe it’s here (not melted down!).
A shapely pendant that is timeless, it displays well with or without a specialty chain.
The chain is sold separately.
