Emerald Diamond Ring Antique 18k
Mid-century or earlier halo ring set with an approximate 2ct natural emerald cabochon and accented with 0.6ctw single cut diamonds in 18k.
This is a handmade ring from this region, the centre stone set with well sized diamonds so the halo works effectively. This is not the case for many modern halo diamond rings.
Only the outermost prongs are visible around the diamonds and the eyes see more diamonds and not gold work. This way of craftsmanship elevate the beauty of halo diamond rings. Many such rings are heavy with gold prongs which appear as distracting dots around the stones.
The choice of single cut diamonds and an emerald cabochon is organic and nuanced. These cut of diamonds work majestically by reflecting more light and appearing whiter around the domed cabochon. I really like the fact the cabochon is more round than oval (but still oval), as it looks ‘plush’ not skinny!
The emerald appears mint in daylight, jade-like, with its green becoming saturated in low light. The ring is expertly crafted to give depth to the cabochon, pushing the emerald tall on the finger.
This is a very pretty and well proportioned halo ring. The face of the ring (emerald and diamonds) is only 1.3cm tall but it feels so much more expansive.
But is it any coincidence the face measures a perfect 1.3cm by 1.3cm? Proportions are like genes, good ones go a long way 🙂
