sphalerite dispersion

Walking past the gem cabinet the sphalerite’s fire fascinates.

When we leave and lights go off in the studio, we can sense the stones which fare better in the dark. Diamonds are diamonds for this reason and the general eye will benchmark against the diamond for a stone’s fire.

Look at the sphalerite’s fire – the bigger is reddish orange and the other is yellowish orange. There is only the street lamp from outside the building, not actually near. These early hours there is no light and the room knows long shadows and formless bouts of ambient light.

For those who know, it is no wonder the sphalerite’s dispersion is better than diamonds; the fire is truly the stone’s.

If there is an all-seeing eye you want to wear close to your heart…
