22k Antique Diamond Flower Studs Gold
22k gold studs from the turn of the last century, set with Old European Cut diamonds weighing 0.6ctw.
The screw back ear posts reveal how early this pair was made, with slightly thicker ear posts and substantial gold weight.
Immediately noticeable is how these earrings were made like first rate ear studs, with the gold work in the scalloped folds forged through expert craftsmanship.
This style of prong work, using prongs as part of the floral motif, is the art of Straits jewellery. Raising the diamonds high (not just setting the stone within the bezel but setting the whole bezel tall) was probably the influence of Victorian or Western jewellery art.
Even in these very early studs, we can see the flair in what was and remains an East-West jewellery piece. We note that nowhere in the world today (but in the old colonies of the English stayed by a melting pot of Chinese and Indian craftsmen) will you find these type of ear studs.
This pair is not invisible, like some small studs, partly because the single diamond wrapped in high karat yellow just pops.
