Large Emerald Stone Ring

The emerald’s color falls into the realm of top color emeralds, with no trace of yellow.

A little explanation on the meaning of ‘top color’:

The best of tsavorites are not just green, but a deep ‘electric’ green – that separates tsavorites from emeralds.

Just as we describe top color jadeite to be ’emerald’ green, we also describe top color emerald to be ‘tsavorite’ green.

By top color emerald, we use ‘tsavorite’ green as a means to separate typical findings of Colombian green with those that are ‘electric’, like those displayed by the very best tsavorites.

In the trade we recognise emeralds showing this ‘tsavorite’ green to have an intense saturation, whose green must be clear enough, fiery, and electric.

The blue green of this Colombian emerald is not just intense, it is alive.

There is an amber-like tactility to this large stone, its convex face visceral in the way an amber stone feels surreal between your fingers.

The stone is clean for its size, measuring 25.6 x 20.6 x 15.5 mm.

Comfortably and flushed set in a white gold mount with the single stone, the ring’s face comes to 28mm by 22mm.

There are surface reaching fissures typical of emeralds but nothing of concern in this huge stone.

We have yet to see an emerald in this size to show a top color – this is a splendid specimen.

If only because an emerald en cabochon mesmerises in an unequivocal way.

We have much difficulty capturing this emerald’s actual intensity and color – color editing or calibration cannot make it real.
