Large Natural Burmese Ruby Mens Ring

Fine ruby ring set with an unheated Burmese ruby weighing 7.4ct in 14k.

This is an old stone, which we observed for a few reasons.

Beyond being unheated, this is also one of those handful which escaped residue treatment.

Heat treatment is very old for stones, while residue treatment for rubies began in the ’70s in Burma.

The ruby treatment is so traditional and prevalent we assume residue treatment whenever there is heat treatment (for Burmese rubies), unless tested otherwise.

This ruby could have ‘escaped’ being heated because it is gemmy despite visible inclusions.

The color of this ruby is redder than most Burmese rubies, which tend towards a pinkish undertone.

The red of this ruby is observed in low light, as the ruby’s saturation tend towards red.

Being both redder and large – for this is considered a large Burmese natural ruby – the stone has the highly restricted attributes of being considerably valuable if left alone ie. no heat, no residue.

There is a longer story to treatment decisions but we will save that for those interested in the ring.

We have been curating Burmese ruby stones and jewelry carefully and have yet to come across an unheated ruby with these limited attributes (ie. natural, large, red, significant clarity, Burmese).

It is not unreasonable to say it is impossible to source an unheated gemmy Burmese red ruby above 5 carat today, unless there is no cap to one’s budget.

This is a vintage ring – we may or may not reset the ruby, as that will depend on who it goes to.

The ring is a double halo cluster, the ruby set flushed to the mount.

The ruby measures 11mm by 10mm.

The ring’s face spans 20mm by 18mm.
