Unheated red ruby weighing 9.8ct from Tajikistan.
The natural ruby is red, with slight undertone of pink.
This is not a modifying color. Like the rubies of Myanmar, the rubies of Tajikistan display their own distinct red tone.
It sometimes causes confusion as the Tajikistan rubies sometimes resemble Burmese rubies at first sight, the only giveaway is Burmese rubies are rarely available at larger sizes.
On this note, natural clean rubies above 5 carat continue to be uncommon regardless of geology.
The stone has significant clarity, with inclusions that do not affect its display.
The stone is cut with most of its weight to its face, but that is not all, the reverse of the cushion cut stone has a flattish pavilion.
This could be the cutter’s decision from studying the rough, to the keeper it is just size maximised.
Its red is intense and uniform, offered in a size that creates value in a natural red ruby.
The stone measures 12.27 x 12.25 x 5.38 mm.
