Big Ruby Pendant Necklace
1900s Straits pendant set with an unheated 36ct Burmese Ruby cabochon and accented with diamonds in 18k.
The ruby is purplish red, the two colors sparring in a big 23mm by 19mm cabochon.
This could be made any time between the 1930s and 1950s, the ruby encased as if a lidless locket.
The ‘William Morris’ carving at the back is graceful and better than filigree, thick and solid.
Its front carvings are each distinct and all the workmanship of time and skill.
The beauty is this piece is its big stone, the ruby on which light appears to roll off its smooth bevelled surface.
The ruby is opaque, but it has a solid color that returns the light energetically, with a third very red.
The pendant will need a specialty chain to wear its presence well, long like a medallion or short like a cameo.
The pendant measures 33 x 28 mm.
