Koi Carved Jade Bangle 57mm

Carved Jade Bangle

Fine carved jadeite jade bangle with an internal diameter of 56.5mm.

The carving is a lively pair of koi done by an award-winning master jadeite carver.

The artistry is in the minimal strokes, the rise and fall of the koi achieved through naturalism over realism.

The sharp delineation of the koi, one particularly, where it is greenest, the other smoother, both whose curvature feels amazing when touched.

The fine details that create the personality of this pair of koi must be their barbels and mouths; the smallest animated details become the ‘real’ in this bangle’s expression.

It is hard to capture the fins in these photos due to the deliberate carving to ‘hide’ the fins. On each side of either koi, the fins are carved to bracket the face of the bangle. These lines of fins are carved into the light color of the jade and almost sublime, this is art.

The rest of the bangle is an off white, with archetypal motifs following around, done sleekly. It is also that should the bangle be left plain (no motifs other than the koi), there is the fear it will be scratched. Strangely enough, once the motifs are etched in, this fear abates.

This bangle has the effect of luring your eyes, its magnificence seemingly for someone looking at the bangle worn on some other.

Such must be the work of painting dimensionality in mixed forms, still life in a jade bangle.

The pair of frogs flanked by the lotus leaf was carved from the same jadeite boulder. The carvings should be dated to at least two decades ago.

The bangle graduates from 20 mm to 28 mm (tallest at the green). As long as the inner diameter fits, beauty aside, it is extremely interesting to wear this bangle.
