Imperial Green Jade Ring

Fine statement ring set with jadeite jade and accented with diamonds in 18k.

The jade is a deep green in and out of light, luminous even in its carved form.

This luminous green is in fact imperial green jade, and specially 坑种 ‘keng zhong’, a Mine Type jade whose texture is extremely fine grain.

Both Old Mine (老坑) ‘lao keng’ and Mine Type (坑种) ‘keng zhong’ jadeite are treasured for their inimitable grain hence rarity.

All Old Mine / Mine Type jade were mined from not recent periods, but it is not necessary for all of this old material to qualify as imperial green jade.

Like diamonds, color and clarity (grain-translucency in the case of jade) will determine its imperial green grading.

The jade on this ring is a ruyi, carved like a spade and rotated tall in a large ring.

The imperial green glow is rare to come by in its undulating expanse, through simple strokes of carving unearthing the color endlessly.

Setting the ruyi this way presents a lively asymmetry, the ring’s design organic to its jade form.

The billowy diamond border, kept small and ended through a marquise ‘bow’, a nod to its Art Nouveau refinement.

The ring is set closed-back with flora engravings.

The ruyi carving measures 30mm by 20mm. The ring’s face comes to 33mm by 26mm.
