This is a Straits Chinese pendant with distinct Chinese ‘Art Nouveau’ flavour.
Its style is a confluence of the East and West, a certain freeform motif that adapts Art Deco regularity with ethnic figural curves.
Yet nowhere but in this peninsula will one encounter such Chinese ‘Art Nouveau’ distinction, an important look that contributes to the idea of ‘Chinoiserie’.
The asymmetric motif is actually a stylized phoenix, which owing to western Art Nouveau influence, has taken on a somewhat feather symbol.
The three drop tails are much ‘softer’ than they look, they glide with even a slight movement.
