Antique Ruby Pendant Necklace

Fine ruby pendant set with a 3.18ct unheated star ruby and accented with unheated rubies weighing 1ctw in platinum.

All rubies are natural stones of Burmese provenance.

The ruby cabochon original to the mount displays an asterism; this is a Mogok ruby from long ago, no flux, no heat.

Hence we constructed a detachable bail (18k) to wear with the antique pendant, the addition gives the whole a large-than-life impression.

The stone has surface ‘vein’ imperfections, but given this is a precious old ruby we are not surprised at its condition – many untreated Mogok rubies show inclusions.

The color of the ruby is splendid, an intense ‘Burmese’ pinkish red (you will see this in low light) with undertones of purple.

The ruby is near transparent, which explains why it is hard to photograph its star (though it is immediate to the eye).

The pendant can be worn with an everyday chain necklace, but it is resplendent when paired with an all-red beaded necklace, and a dazzling look with a tennis necklace.

The allure of an antique pendant extends to its conversation with whichever choice of necklace.

This listing will allow either the ruby pendant alone, or paired with the 18k deep red spinel bead necklace, as photographed.

The pendant comes to 35mm by 20mm; the spinel bead necklace is 18″.

All stones and beads are of Burmese provenance.

Rubies weigh 4.18ctw in all; diamonds weigh 1.6ctw.
