Artifact Roman Gold Band Ring

Classical gold contoured ring offered in 22k or 24k yellow gold.

Each solid gold ring is sculpted using fine jewelry techniques, and bears contours inside and out.

(Fine sculpting techniques VS artisan techniques produce different rings, even in a simple gold band.)

We start with material from a one troy ounce gold coin and sculpt each ring into shape.

The extent of dome in the contours of the ring will vary, but to achieve and wear the ring like an artifact, the ring is built to be at least 5mm wide and 3mm thick.

This can widen but not thin, again this is to fulfil the solid and thickish form of the ‘Artifact Ring’.

And because we insist on the form being thick and solid, there is no fear for wearing a gold “too soft”.

Working with the fine sculpting technique, we file to contour; there is no need for hammering.

You will get a ring with contours outside AND inside, rounded all over with no metal forming marks (there are no level edges in this ring).

The Artifact Ring is smooth and bears no finishing marks.

Because it is smooth there is no need for further plating to hide flaws in the gold.

The ring’s satin smoothness is its mastery of craftsmanship.

When you begin to wear the ring, the effects of daily wear will age the ring into a splendid artifact, not its finishing marks.

The ring in these photos is US 9.

A 24k solid gold ring is a lot of controlled work to build by hand, this ring cannot be built by metal forming techniques alone, it must be sculpted.

Sculpting is the premium we charge above the gold weight, it is a merciless art form!

Its technical difficulty explains why there are many bands of hammered, organic finish, or imperfectly perfect designs, but these techniques will not produce one contoured satin gold ring as this.
