1900s carved jade earrings set with jadeite in 20k.
This is a pair of Straits Chinese earrings from an early period.
Pretty jade from this period (late 19th through 20th century) are fewer than we imagine, pieces with a strong Anglo-Sino flavour are collected for their authenticity.
The jade is dark green, with bright striated paces in its flow.
The carving is of melon, tightly-scrolled in the plaque form, carved on both sides.
The harmony of carvings in older jade can be extremely pleasing; it does not matter if it is a monkey, money, or a moment encapsulated in the jade.
The carving is a thin sheaf of translucent jade, delicate but the earrings have come a hundred years and beyond.
Today such styles will be carved thicker, while they are easier to carve they lose the delicacy of coyness.
These are screw-back earrings, very comfortable, at 47mm long and 10mm wide.
