Green Jade Chilong Carving
Fine jade pendant set with carved green jadeite jade in 18k.
The carving is a two tone celadon and apple green.
Depicted through a pavilion theme of chilong intertwined in ruyi vines and sprigs of lingzhi, its carving is not so much ornate as is picturesque.
The motifs are evenly sized, no one focal object but a subject decorated in essence.
This is what gives the carving a scenic quality.
What light does when it falls onto this scenic quality is what we mean by jade in its element.
The carving appears as if light falls to one side, even where all material is clear and bright.
Carving (or art) aside, the jade material has an excellent color, its vibrant green bolder through undulation.
A reflection of conscientious carving is precious when material is precious, in this case variegated colors of the stone with the pale section forming the underside and the vibrant section decorated in openwork.
The carving measures 60mm by 14mm.
The pendant is strung on double-sided velvet, of adjustable length, with 18k gold accent endings.
