Yellow Jade Carved Pendant

Fine tri color jadeite jade pendant carved with a pair of Mandarin ducks in 18k.

The carving is jadeite in three colors of faint yellow, medium red, and bright green.

The ascension of colors is slow at first, then when held up to any light surprising.

Such immediacy is always a test for translucency in jadeite, and in carvings a critical attribute that distinguishes commercial from collector grades.

The video shows how potent this can be – against a backdrop of light the translucency becomes the true reveal of the carving’s tri colors, which mingle like ink wash.

Carved carefully on both sides, the pair of ducks amid lotus root and coins, though all these details form only a quarter to its giant coin ‘amulet’.

As with most conscientious jade carvings, one face takes on a ‘subtle’ display while the other side an ‘acute’ face.

Yet this jadeite pendant is less about carving/representation and more the spread of colors, seen through jadeite’s lesser seen soft and sheer yellow-red hues.

The pendant has the slow light admired in Chinese watercolor paintings, it gets more and more attention once you feel it.

The carving measures 6cm by 4.5cm, with a 7mm thickness that expresses the tri colors, sheerest through its uppermost well-carved corners.
