Coral Diamond Earrings

These earrings are handmade to make available a pair of Chinese ‘courtesan’ or harem earrings.
Earrings of this style are stories of imperial jewels, exhibited but never available in the marketplace.
For they are not unusual stones, but because the craftsmanship to house these stones requires time and peculiar knowledge, these make of ‘imperial jewelry’ are sporadically made and infrequently available for sale.
Jade aside, there are two types of imperial ‘red’ hues we read about, the bright cinnabar red, and the soft angel skin coral.
When this pair sells, we will make the cinnabar.
The uncommonness of a pair like this is not its stones but its caliber, conch pearl-like.
The coral is from Japan, a beige ‘angel skin’ with an intermittent muted orange.
The studs have a lovely domed profile, plush to convey a full figure.
As harem earrings, individual stones are considered big though the whole package must be delicate.
Its quiet sensibility is trapping the bright yellow gold at the heart of the studs, the outermost framed in platinum, hence the earrings remain ‘soft’, not overly gilded in gold.
The gossamer coral stones shine as if buffed.
This grey-gold is the reverso to antique ‘imperial’ earrings, hence a fine-drawn manner of making this pair heirloom to our own era.
The diamonds weigh 0.44ctw.
